Dot businesses and volunteers are honored for contributions: to the Main Streets initiative

A woman-owned legal practice in Fields Corner was among the 38 business and individuals honored Tuesday night for their contribution to an initiative between Boston and the National Trust for Historic Preservation. HNN Law, run by Nina Nguyen, was honored at the Greater Boston YMCA as part of the Boston Main Streets project, a 19-district program aimed at setting up thriving commercial districts.

The practice, which employs five people and offers services in English and Vietnamese, opened in 2004, focusing on real estate, business, family and immigration law. Other businesses and volunteers honored, according to Mayor Thomas Menino's office, include the Irie Jamaican and American Restaurant on Bowdoin Street, run by Sonia Satchele and Donna Davis; Bowdoin-Geneva's Sharon Keyes; Fields Corner's Erica Raine; the Island Style Jamaican Restaurant in Four Corners, run by Winston Thomas; Four Corners' Rev. Brillton Levy; Mt. Washington Bank in St. Mark's Area; Christopher Stanley, who helped redevelop Peabody Square; Restaurant Laura, which serves Cape Verdean food and wine and run by Laura and Arlindo Correia on Columbia Road; and Uphams Corner volunteer Michelle Waldon.

In a statement, Menino said, "This is event is special because we get to honor the people in the neighborhoods who are making our local commercial districts vibrant and a welcoming place in which to shop and do business. I'm proud of the work they do."
