A Suffolk County grand jury last week indicted a 23 year-old man for the murder of a 19 year-old Dorchester woman last year. Daniel Harris faces first-degree murder charges and a variety of weapons charges in the shooting death of Alexandra "Xanda" Gomes last November. Gomes was standing with a group of people outside a home on Elder Street near Uphams Corner when she was shot. Three other people were injured in the shooting, which happened at about 2:20 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 9. Prosecutors allege that Harris - who was also wounded in the shooting, apparently by a person in the group who fired back at him - fired numerous times with a semi-automatic pistol.
Harris was discovered "on the ground close to the scene of the shooting," according to the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office, which said that "a trail of blood" led from Harris to a discarded .45 caliber pistol. Tests showed that the gun fired the found that killed Gomes. Harris - who has been held without bail since his arrest - will be arraigned on the murder charges on Jan. 9 in Suffolk Superior Court.
