Cycle crashes after police chaseA suspect in a bank robbery in East Milton this morning was apprehended after a chase through the neighborhood ended in a crash on Gallivan Boulevard. A passing motorist shot a photo (left) of the suspect's Vespa scooter, which crashed in a parking lot in front of storefronts across from St. Brendan's Church.
Eyewitness accounts say that the suspect weaved through sidestreets in the Cedar Grove neighborhood before the pursuit ended. The suspect —identified by Milton Police as 35 year-old William Donovan— was arrested as he tried to evade capture behind the Muffler Man building next to Toohig Park. The events unfolded just before 10 a.m. on Wednesday.

Milton Police Chief Richard Wells says that the suspect entered a Citizens Bank branch at 420 Granite Ave. this morning at 9:50 a.m. He handed a teller a note indicating he had a weapon and then fled with an undetermined amount of cash. A dye pack that bank employees slipped into a bag with the money exploded as the suspect left the building, according to Milton Police.
"He got on a Vespa, drove the wrong way on Granite Ave and then got on exit 9 going north on the expressway," said Wells. "He went to Exit 11 and we started chasing him pretty quick. Two guys from BPD Special Ops got him."
Captain Richard Sexton of Boston Police Area C-11 said that investigators will check to see if the suspect— who is now in Milton Hospital— may have any connection to a bank robbery that happened yesterday at the Sovereign Bank on Gallivan Boulevard.
Elaine Driscoll, a Boston Police spokesperson, says that the money taken in this morning's Milton robbery was recovered.
