Hyde Park teen arrested for armed robbery outside Mattapan library

The Boston Police Department reports arresting a 16-year-old from Hyde Park on charges he used an ammo clip to help convince another kid to hand over $21 after both had left the Mattapan BPL branch shortly after 6 p.m. on Thursday.

Police say the victim and the suspect had gotten into an argument inside the library "over some printed materials," and that when the victim left the branch with some friends, they saw the teen coming after them and started to run:

"The victim reported that the suspect chased and caught up to his two friends and demanded that they tell him to stop running lest he shoot him after he lifted up his shirt to reveal an ammunition magazine. The victim stated that he stopped running once directed to do so by his friends and was confronted by the victim who then exclaimed, 'Give me your money or I am going to take out the clip!' "

The victim reported having seen the kid before around both the library and Norfolk Park, which is where police say they found him.

Police did not identify him because of his age. He was charged with armed robbery and making threats.
