Dr. Theodore Landsmark, the president and CEO of Boston Architectural College, has been tapped as a member of the Boston Redevelopment Authority’s board of directors. Mayor Martin Walsh’s office announced the appointment, which must still be approved by the City Council, on Tuesday morning.
Landsmark has served as president for 17 years and is trustee emeritus of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. He is also widely known from a 1976 news photograph depicting a white man attempting to assault him with the American flag during protests over court-ordered busing in Boston. T
he other members of the board, who serve staggered five-year terms, include Timothy Burke, the chair, Paul Foster, Consuelo Gonzales-Thornell and Michael Monahan. Four of five members are appointed by the mayor, while the governor gets one appointment. The board oversees the Boston Redevelopment Authority and votes on planning study, rezoning efforts and project permitting.
