A large and spirited crowd gathered at Dorchester Brewing Company on Massachusetts Avenue last Thursday evening for the Dorchester Historical Society’s first-ever Dorchester Trivia Night. Questions ranged from Dorchester geography and history to pop culture connections to the neighborhood. The Dorchester Reporter team— featuring associate editor Tom Mulvoy, publisher and editor Bill Forry and frequent contributor Chris Lovett, also the news director at Neighborhood Network News— fielded the winning team.

The competition was decided with a tie-breaking question between the Reporter and “Mike and the Old Guys” which asked, “What is the total population of Dorchester, according to the 2010 US Census?” The correct answer was 117,000. Other question posed included: Name the Dorchester actor who was in the cast of the Wizard of Oz (Ray Bolger); name the first community health center in the United States (Dorchester’s own Geiger-Gibson on Columbia Point); and name the Dorchester hill that shares a name with a former Massachusetts governor and prestigious New England college (Mt. Bowdoin.)

Proceeds from the event will go to benefit the Historical Society’s properties, including the historic Clapp House on Boston Street, which is presently being repaired and repainted.
