Mayor Martin Walsh is geared up to be one of the featured speakers at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia next week, he told reporters Wednesday morning.

Speaking outside of the Dorchester Brewing Company after the brewery’s ribbon cutting ceremony Wednesday, Walsh said he was slightly surprised to be tapped for the speech as a first-term mayor, but credited Boston’s rising profile on a national stage.

“What’s happening in Boston right now, with economic development and creation of housing and what we’re doing here, people are taking notice,” he said.

Walsh remarked on his “great relationship” with Hillary Clinton, the presumptive Democratic nominee. He has been an active surrogate for the campaign since his endorsement of the candidate last fall.

“I believe in what she stands for. I believe in what she’s talking about,” he said Wednesday. “And I’ve said this before and no one can take this away: she’s the most prepared person ever to run for the presidency of the United States of America.”

The exact topic of Walsh’s remarks were unknown even to the mayor, he said. His speech will take place on Monday during at a "pretty good" time slot, according to Politico Massachusetts.
