Final salute to Sgt. Kennedy; Pub Crawl set for April 8

Sgt. Adam Kennedy

The 10th annual Adams Corner Crawl — billed as a final salute to Sgt. Adam P. Kennedy, who was killed in action in Iraq in 2007— is set for Sat., April 8. The pub crawl was launched by Kennedy’s cousins, Lauren Woods and Jill Reardon, who say the event exceeded their original goals— to fund scholarships at Xaverian High School and Norwich University, Adam’s alma maters.

“We accomplished that and we’ll still have money to donate in his name to other various military organizations and events,” said Woods. “This year is about thanking the neighborhood of Dorchester, our neighborhood, our friends and family that have been there for 10 years.”

The $25 donation to participate comes with a long sleeve shirt that can be purchased on Friday, April 7 from 6:30-9 p.m. at the McKeon Post. The crawl through Dorchester starts at 1 p.m. onApril 8 at Harp and Bard, 2 p.m. at JJ's Irish Pub, 3 p.m. at Peggy O'Neil's, 4 p.m. at Blarney Stone, 5 p.m. at Twelve Bens, 6 p.m. at Eire Pub, and 7-10 p.m. at Old Dorchester Post with DJ from Good Times Unlimited.

In an expansion over previous years, Woods and Reardon have added two additional RSVP-only events.

A “Family Dinner’ with a special guest speaker and the Wreath Laying Ceremony. The Family Dinner will feature a slideshow of Sgt. Kennedy and the previous years’ pub crawls. It is a family style buffet and a new shirt for this year and the shirts from all nine previous years will be for sale. This event will be held on Fri., April 7 at 5:30 p.m. at the McKeon Post, 4 Hilltop St.

There will also be a ceremony at the Mass Fallen Heroes Memorial, 101 Northern Ave., on Sun., April 9 at 11:30 a.m.

“The Mass Fallen Heroes ceremony is going to a family moment of silence,” said Woods. “We really encourage people to pay tribute, it will be in a solemn way, but it’s the final sendoff.”
