Mattapan Domino's gets approval for delivery into the early morning

The Boston Licensing Board on Thursday voted to approve plans by the Domino's at 1514 Blue Hill Ave. to extend its closing time to 2 a.m. Sunday through Wednesday and 3 a.m. Thursday through Saturday - with delivery only via car.

At a hearing Wednesday, nobody spoke against the idea of extending the closing time from the current midnight, which the franchise owner said would let it better meet demand, especially from third-shift workers and first responder who are up and hungry at 2 a.m.

Under the pizza-maker's proposal, deliverers would have to use their own cars - no scooter or bike deliveries allowed. Also, the place's doors would be locked promptly at midnight, so post-midnight orders would have to be made by phone or online, and all post-midnight payments would have to be via credit cards.

What if somebody showed up and started banging at the door demanding to be let in to order a pie? Domino's licensing consultant John Mohan said such insistent pizza seekers would be told: "Go to your car and call us, go home and we'll deliver it to you."
