The Democrat told WCVB’s “On the Record” on Sunday that she expects to make an official announcement of another campaign for mayor in the new year. “This is a consequential time,” she said. “I feel so lucky and grateful every day to live in a city where people are always ready to roll up their sleeves and get to work.”

Wu is expecting her third child, a girl, in January. Wu and her husband, Conor Pewarski, have two boys, Blaise and Cass.

“While I intend to formally launch the re-election campaign at the right moment, there’s still a lot of work to do, even before the baby comes,” she said, adding she and her team will focus on city services and “continuing to move things forward.”

Wu has indicated that she does not plan to take parental leave when her new child arrives. In the interview with WCVB, she said, “This is the type of job where you’re around whenever decisions need to be made.” But, she noted, she’ll likely be working from home more after the baby arrives.
Wu won her first term as mayor in 2021, becoming the first woman, and first person of color elected to that position. No incumbent elected mayor of Boston has lost a reelection bid since the 1940s.
