11:30 AM Literacise Exhibit Grand Opening
BPL, Central Library, Copley Square
Mayor Menino will speak briefly at the grand opening that will call attention to the importance of literacy and exercise. Literacise invites kids on an active reading adventure through the pages of Boston author Irene Small’s book, Jonathan and his Mommy (set in the South End).
1:30 PM BPON 2009 Annual BBQ and Family Fun Day
Blue Hill Boys and Girls Club, 15 Talbot Ave., Dorchester
Mayor Menino will help celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Boston Parent Organizing Network (BPON), which organizes, develops and support parents and families who are marginalized by class, race, language, disability and immigration status to work with and hold accountable Boston Public Schools to provide an excellent education for all students.

8:15 AM Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk

Mayor Menino will speak briefly and present a proclamation before more than 35,000 people walk in the largest and oldest breast cancer fundraiser. The annual Walk has raised more than $35 million for several programs.
12:45 PM Roslindale Day Parade
Washington St., South St., Belgrade Ave., West Roxbury Parkway to Msr. Finn Circle (Gottwald Rotary), Centre St. to South St. Ending at Walter St. (Fallon Field)
The Mayor will walk in the parade on the second anniversary of Steven Odom’s death. Mayor Menino has supported the Odom family at every event since his death and will meet them at a memorial.
